Mailed-in Child Renewal Applications
(PC8 – Renewals for children under the age of 16 only)
Eligibility
Child passport renewal applications (PC8) may be mailed-in provided the applicant is:
- under the age of 16 (i.e. 15 or below); AND
- has previously held an Australian passport
Please note that if you wish to attend the Embassy in person to lodge a child renewal application, you are still welcome to do so.
For first-time child applications and applicants aged 16 or 17, the application must be lodged in person by appointment only. Appointments can be made here.
1. Get the form
Fill out the passport application at the global website and print it off. You will need to create an account first. When you fill out your application form online, you will automatically be directed to the correct form and a list of required supporting documents will be available.
You will need to send us the completed form, two passport photographs and copies of both parents' ID and both parents' proof of address.
Depending on your circumstances, we may require other documents. We will contact you upon receipt of your application to advise if any further documents were required.
2. Print, sign and date your form.
Print: Print your application on plain white A4 paper, using a colour printer. You may need to adjust your print settings so that the top/bottom of the pages are not cut off.
Sign: Make sure all sections are signed using a black pen and witnessed where required before you send the form to us. Make sure the applicant’s signature is within the signature box and there are no alterations or whiteout on the signature or the date.
Date: Signatures are valid for six months only.
Children 10 years or older must provide a signature unless there is a medical reason or disability that prevents them from signing.
Parental Consent is required for a child passport. Everyone who is giving consent must sign section 15 of the form in front of a witness. Parents are not able to witness each other’s signatures. The witness must be an unrelated third party.
3. Parents' proof of identity
Please submit copies of both parents’ ID showing their name, photo and signature, as well as a copy of proof of address, such as a residency permit or utility bill. Photocopies should be good quality, and black and white or colour photocopies are acceptable.
Important: If there are any changes in parental circumstances (e.g. current names of either parent are different to how they appear on the child’s birth certificate) or new supporting documents need to be submitted (e.g. marriage or divorce certificate), please include certified copies of your IDs, your proof of address and the supporting document/s.
For certified copies, you will need to find an approved individual to do the certification.
The certifier should write on the photocopy "This is a true copy of the original document presented to me", with their full name, occupation and the date signed.
4. Photographs and Guarantor
We recommend that you have your photos taken by a photographer showing them the photograph guidelines.
Please advise the photographer not to ‘photo shop’ the image, as the system will detect this, and your photos will likely be rejected, and you will need to submit new ones. Photos taken in a photo booth will also likely be rejected.
A guarantor must sign the application at section 11 and endorse the back of one photo for all PC8 applications by writing ‘This is a true photo of [the child’s full name]’ and signing in black pen. The guarantor cannot be related to the applicant.

5. Payment

Check the details are correct and you have sufficient funds for the application fee. An additional fee will be charged if you request to have your passport couriered back to you.

Problems with your payment method will delay the processing of your application.
6. Send the application by courier
Courier the application, two photos, copies of both parents' ID and both parents' proof of address and the Payment Authorisation Form to the Australian Embassy in Athens or the relevant Australian Consulate if you are in Bulgaria or Romania:
